In order to find one's way in this judicial maze, here is a summary:
1) On the 5th of April, I asked Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec to allow me to consult the shorthand transcripts of the Brossard Commission that were heard in camera and the Coffin police file;
2) On the 2nd of May 2006, I was denied access to those transcripts and, as to the police file, I was referred to the ministère de la Sécurité publique ;
3) On the 17th of June, I appealed to the Commission d’accès à l’information ;
4) I was heard on the 5th of June, in Montréal;
5) I received a favourable decision from the Commission d’accès; (you may read this decision on this blog)
6) Bibliothèque et archives nationales du Québec lodged an appeal before the Cour du Québec and the Québec Attorney General intervened;
7) My request for seeing those transcripts that were held in camera will be heard before the Cour du Québec on the 12th of November 2008; (please read on this blog the relevant documents)
8) As to the police file, the ministère de la Sécurité publique agreed to let me have it provided that the information of a personal character would first be blue-penciled.
9) The Commission d’accès à l’information rendered then an interlocutory decision (this document is posted on this blog) granting 90 days to the ministère de la Sécurité publique to hand over to me the police file in the Coffin affair, reserving me the right to inform it, within 30 days, whether I was satisfied or not with such documents. I made known my dissatisfaction as to the manner in which certain documents were blue-penciled and as to the fact that they had withheld several documents.
10) On the 28th of October 2008, regarding the police file, there was a hearing before the Commission d’accès à l’information. As soon as the decision is rendered, I shall post it on this blog.
Finally, I wonder how it is that so many good people, claiming that Coffin was the victim of a miscarriage of justice, have never tried to look at those documents? Would they prefer gossips?
