THE ROLE PLAYED BY THE TORONTO DAILY STAR AND THE TORONTO EVENING TELEGRAM

COMING SOON
Why did the Coffin case get so much publicity? In the coming weeks, I shall reproduce and translate Part III of the Brossard Report. The honourable justice Roger Brossard explains the role played by the CBC with its program Close-up. And later, a televised enquiry by Radio-Canada through its program “Aujourd’hui”. In Toronto, the publicity bordering on yellow journalism (sensationalized news to attract readers) was the result of the frantic competition between the Toronto Daily Star and the Toronto Evening Telegram. In Montréal, although indirectly, the same type of competition between La Presse and the Nouveau Journal resulted in sensational news and reports. We shall see how what had become the COFFIN AFFAIR was used for various purposes.
