TESTIMONIES IN CAMERA (BEHIND CLOSED DOORS) BEFORE THE BROSSARD COMMISSION COFFIN AFFAIR

The Brossard Commission has heard several testimonies in camera (behind closed doors). According to the law, the transcripts of those testimonies are not accessible for 100 years from their inception or 30 years after the date of death of the person concerned (section 19 Loi sur les Archives). Consequently, Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) has denied access to those documents. I lodged an appeal to the Commission d'accès à l'information (CAI). In a decision dated 10th December last, the CAI authorizes me to examine those documents. Unless BAnQ lodges an appeal to the Cour du Québec, I should be able to examine those documents as early as the 10th of January 2008.
